Facebook is a double-edged sword. Love it or hate it, it has its uses. Judging by Facebook, Governor Shapiro seems to be all over Pennsylvania touching base with different constituent groups and touting his Administration’s achievements.
Unfortunately, looks are deceiving and that is certainly true of the Governor. Since the beginning of his governance he has disrespectfully REFUSED to meet with complete groups of constituents such as Delaware River Keeper Network led by Maya van Rossum and Tracy Carluccio, Better Path Coalition and No False Solutions, PA led by led by Karen Ferindun, Food and Water Watch, PA led by Ginny Marcille-Kerslake and many other well-established, statewide, grassroots economic, environmental, and community action/community organizations. This has been a true slap in the face to everyday Pennsylvanians.
Granted, these organizations are led by highly talented and successful women who have no problem challenging the Governor’s positions on energy policy (all of the above especially fracking), community development (streamline community timelines regarding permitting, power lines, data centers, warehouses), and economic development (no voice, corporate welfare). His policies are a gift to developers and a gut punch to everyday Pennsylvanians.
Instead of acknowledging the Compendium of Scientific, Medical and Media Findings Demonstrating Risks and Harms of Fracking and Associated Gas and Oil Infrastructure, University of Pittsburg Health Studies and his own Pennsylvania Department of Health, Shapiro entered a voluntary partnership with CNX Corporation (2023), a company with a history of environmental violations. Instead of enacting strict regulations based on existing data he partnered with the fracking industry.
I am not a fan of Shapiro based on several issues. As with all politicians, I believe in holding their feet to the fire as opposed to putting them on a pedestal. There job is to pursue the issues we identify as important. Period! Ignoring large segments of constituents is bad governance.
Here we are in a month dedicated to honoring women as Shapiro disses constituent groups led by accomplished women.
