This picture appeared in the Times Leader, Wilkes-Barre, PA on August 22, 1992 along with a story about the demonstration/protest/press conference that took place in front of the CAN DO Headquarters in Hazleton, PA. The event was organized by Citizens Against Hazardous and Nuclear Waste. At issue was a Department of Defense Accounting Center that protesters and city officials said CAN DO did not adequately pursue and did not inform the community about the possibility. It was reported that it would have brought approximately 7000 good paying, white collar jobs to the area. Also at issue was the New Jersey Steel Plant proposed for Humboldt Industrial Park which CAN DO supported. CAHNW and members of the Greenfire Coalition had been pointing out the environmental implications and environmental track record of NJS at numerous public venues.
