Once again, we are going to spend New Year’s Eve in Wellsboro, PA. Nestled just west of the Endless Mountains Region and adjacent to the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania, Wellsboro serves as the county seat of Tioga County. Settled in 1806, it once was a shipping point and trade center for much of the surrounding area. Currently, it has a population of just over 3,000 people and is a tourist destination due to its quintessential Main Street and proximity to vast swaths of forest.

The Borough of Wellsboro is quite charming and well worth a visit. Downtown features shops, restaurants, a movie theater, a used bookstore and a great diner. Nudging the Dowtown is The Green. It serves as a community gathering spot and features an iconic statue of Wynken, Blynken and Nod. Remember them?

Our destination is the historic Penn-Wells Hotel. As you enter the Hotel you are struck by a spacious lobby with dark wood trimmed walls, high ceilings, comfortable couches and a large fireplace. This is a great place for relaxing with a glass of wine or a cup of tea, people watching and conversation. Over the years the Penn-Wells Hotel has had many famous visitors and you can feel that in the room.

The rooms are a bit dated but quaint as is the elevator trip to the main floor. To be enjoyed is a lovely dinner, live music, dancing, hats and noise makers and the camaraderie of strangers.

Happy New Year to all!
