Donald Trump does not inspire confidence. Many people based their opinion of him on limited information from television, newspaper and radio reports that revolved around real estate, golf, gambling and reality TV. That was in 2015. Like many people, I started to learn more and form an opinion.
His style is to be provocative, insulting, nebulous and, quite frankly, thuggish. This is not a style that works for me but I continued to watch, listen and read about his past. Two of his mentors, Frederick Trump and Roy Cohn, were not appealing to me. A housing development he worked with his father was continuously accused of racism. His treatment of Polish workers was unfair. Roy Cohn, an attorney, taught Trump to “never settle”, “never surrender”, “counter-attack/counter sue immediately” and “claim victory/never admit defeat”. Both of these mentors promoted an aggressive, combative and uncompromising approach to life.
Since 2015, I have seen Trump employ all of the above strategies and more. He is purposely non-specific and attempts to muddy the water on countless issues. He is often heard to say, “I don’t know.”, “I’m not sure.”, “I’ll have to check on that.”, “I never heard of that.” (Project 2025), and “I don’t know that person.” These are not confidence builders.
Denying the results of elections, pardoning January 6th convicted rioters, seemingly condoning grabbing women by their “pussies”, discrediting all branches (executive, judicial and legislative) of government saying they are corrupt, dishonest, lunatic, socialist, communist and incompetent are a few examples of his divisive approach to leadership. Again, these are not confidence builders.
He has called the integrity of the Press into question calling them, “fake news.” He has thrown shade on NATO. He seems to admire authoritarian leaders. He wants to annex Canada and Greenland, take back the Panama Canal and rename large bodies of water. He is signing a plethora of executive orders whose impact we are yet to understand and experience. Ditto, not confidence builders.
Most outrageously, he is allowing unelected millionaires/billionaires to invade federal agencies and programs. They are taking an axe to federal employees, programs and funding. All of this is and will be challenged in courts across the land. Much of this will make its way to the Supreme Court where he will lose. Why? His approach is unconstitutional, ignores due process and does an “end run” around Congress. I see no reason for confidence in the above.
His foreign policy is disgraceful. He has thrown Ukraine under the bus and continues to support the genocide being conducted in Gaza. The world sees Netanyahu and Putin as criminals subject to arrest. He wants to cut off funding for Ukraine and continues to supply Israel with weapons. He puts forth a ridiculous idea for Gaza and gives the far right, zealous, zionist government in Israel a green light.
These are just a few examples of what Trump is doing/trying to do. He is going to fail.
I believe the U.S. Constitution will stand up to Trump! I believe the American people and the world will stand up to Trump!
