Recently I posted on the cruelties imposed on egg laying hens and male chicks. Today I want to talk about what happens to ducks and geese. That’s right, Donald, Daffy, Goosey Loosey, Uncle Waldo and millions of ordinary ducks and geese beloved by our children.

Purposely bred male ducks and geese are used to produce “foie gras”. Several times a day ducks and geese are force-fed through steel pipes. This is done to produce diseased livers which are then eaten by humans. Their livers grow up to 10 times the normal size.

This abomination is not common fare. It is usually on the menu in so called “upper scale” eating establishments.

So, a steel feeding tube is shoved down the bird’s throat. A combination of fat and grains is forced down into the bird. The amount of food is incrementally increased over a short period of time and is many times more than the bird’s normal intake. This is done several times per day. In two to three weeks these birds are no longer capable of being exploited. They are slaughtered and their diseased livers are processed. For the sake of “foie gras” these birds live two to three weeks during which they are caged, exploited and then slaughtered.

Now the above is bad but there is more. Only male ducks and geese are used in the “foie gras” factory farm industry. Shortly after birth the females are separated out and thrown into an industrial mincer. That is cold hearted cruelty.

It is illegal in several countries but NOT in the UNITED STATES. Boycott restaurants that serve it.

This is another example of blatant speciesism!
