A phone-in town hall meeting is weak, weak, weak! Congressman Meuser just tried. I’m sure he will spin it his way but for me it was very disappointing. He is my representative in the U.S. House of Representatives and I expect him to be available in person, OFTEN!

Phone-ins are avoidance behavior. I tried to call in to pursue my quest to interview Mr. Meuser. You see, I’m a writer for Greenfire Coalition Writers’ Forum which is currently based in Bloomsburg, PA. It is in his district. I live in Bloomsburg.

I listened to music. I listened to recorded messages. I talk to a frontline worker who blatantly screened me and my question. I told her my question. She said that it would not be appropriate. I gently protested, stating that I had called the office several times but got no response. They make you jump through several hoops. Leave a message, fill out a form, answer a questionnaire or send an e-mail are a few examples of the screening that takes place just to talk to my Congressman. That is BULLSHIT! That is a DISGRACE! Remember, you work for us, for me. It was a waste of my time.

It is a sad day when our ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES are afraid to face their constituents. Yes, they may face both criticism and praise but that is the nature of the job. He needs to hear from ALL of his constituents. He needs to represent ALL of us and not just those who share his perspective.
