Many people cannot or choose not to see any farther than their noses. Many people cannot or choose not to hear anything beyond their thoughts. Many people cannot or choose not to speak, especially to power. I do not exclude myself.
Most people rely on “leaders” to think and act for them. Yikes! Sheeple to the slaughter. Lemmings to the fictional cliff. I blame education or lack thereof. Most people are not interested in cerebral musings. Their concerns are very basic; food, water, shelter, safety, and sex. They are perfect worker slaves, taxpayer slaves, consumer slaves and reproductive slaves.
Religion, should you choose to participate, is an enormous leap of faith. God created the perfect followers. I was raised in the Catholic faith and, while I had/have many reservations, some teachings about Jesus have been part of me. Concerns about justice, poverty, peace, children, humility and basic humanity have been/are lighthouses.
Now, Pope Francis has just died. Much of his Papacy revolved around the above concerns. I was on board with many of his assertions.
Donald Trump immediately got rid of the USAID. While not perfect, it was a beam of light for the millions of desperately poor, starving and sick people. That is disgraceful.
Donald Trump is finagling tax breaks for the richest people in the United States while at the same time eliminating agencies, programs and employees involved in federal programs that assist poor people in the United States. That is another disgrace.
Pope Francis, himself part of an immigrant family, advocated for fair treatment of immigrants. Donald Trump uses tough rhetoric and a heavy hand, including lack of due process, to deal with immigrants.
Always remember, immigrant labor is cheep labor. Immigrants will do work for lower wages/benefits. American businesses refuse to pay a living wage and benefits especially in certain jobs/industries. Immigrants fill the void and business makes huge profits. Also, remember that oversees labor is also cheep and regulations for environment and safety are severely lacking.
