If you are feeling overwhelmed by the events in Minneapolis you are not alone. Millions of others are with you and searching for tools to fight back. Our elected representatives are very detached from us, by design. They are very difficult to engage and are expert at staying out of the public. My Congressman, Dan Meuser, is nowhere to be seen unless he can control the setting. I have not been able to speak with him in person as he is always “busy”. The same is true for Senators Fetterman and McCormick. They do not hold live town hall meetings! Cowardly!
They do pay attention to polls. Mostly, they are about power and money. The majority are wealthy and in tune with financial strategies. They are fans of corporate welfare and most congressional districts benefit from it. Corporate donors are political assets. All you have to do is follow the money.
So, our system is driven by money and consumption. Well, we have money and we are consumers. I would support targeted boycotts. Pick your targets. I would support national “stand down” days with no spending. Remember, our elected officials and the wealthy individuals and corporations they represent count on our consumption habits. Our consumption habits affect the stock market, main street, pensions, tax revenues, company profits, everything!
The game is rigged. They count on our mindless consumption. They count on our never ending insecurities that can only be satisfied with; cars, vacations, shopping, restaurants, clothing, technology, etc.
Yes, write letters, go to demonstrations, call your representatives and vote BUT pay attention to your money. Spend or withhold it with mental clarity.
