John Lennon wrote, Give Peace a Chance, and it is a noble thought. David Crosby penned, What Are Their Names, and Edwin Starr released, War, in 1969. They are but three songs among hundreds that express the anguish that most people have towards violent confrontations.
As Homo sapiens we have carved a wide, long and brutal path to dominance if that is what we can call our present situation. Will we ever free our behavior from the legacy of our ancestors? Is there anything we can do to change the course we our on?
The ongoing genocide in Gaza, the U.S./Israel/Iran/Middle East WAR, the mutual annihilation in the Ukraine/Russia war and the savage civil conflicts in Africa and Asia are all indicators of severe Homo sapien mental illness. We know that within our DNA there are certainly genes that manifest negative behaviors. Survival, greed and violence among others. We also know that these behaviors, for most people, can be tamped down or kept in check. Mutual survival and civil society are great works in progress.
War is a complete breakdown of self-respect, respect for others and realizations of the consequences. YIKES! War is brought on us by a very small contingent of greedy, sociopathic and insecure Homo sapiens. We need to devise remedies to remove, arrest (if necessary), prosecute (if appropriate) and punish these bad seeds.
People want peace, order, fairness, cooperation and opportunity. We need to vote the war mongers out. We need to shift our priorities. For example, the Defense Department (Pentagon) budget is an obscene 1.5 trillion dollars and growing. At our, our children’s and our grandchildren’s expense a small cadre of people are making huge profits in WMDs and war! The same is true in many other countries. That is insanity. With partner countries we need to shift that money and other monies to eliminating worldwide poverty with its associated problems.
Regardless of the government system (Communist, Socialist, Constitutional Republic Democracy, Dictator), I see no need for billionaires to exist until the planet is fed, clothed, housed, educated, healthy, practicing self-determination and family planning. After that is successfully brought about, people can earn all the fool’s gold they want.
We love our children. We want to end war, poverty and ecological suicide. Pie in the sky? Well, look around. Our present course is a disaster. If we don’t change course the greedy bastard, war mongers will ruin us. Guaranteed!
We like to think of ourselves as being exceptional, smart. Let’s see if we can pull peace off.
