Bloomsburg is a great little “town”, the only one in Pennsylvania. It has the Susquehanna River, Columbia County Seat, community pool, hiking/biking trail, Commonwealth University, Bloomsburg Fair, BTE community theater, artists of all sorts, great public library, historical society, US Post Office, great town park, small airport, nice book store and historic floods just for starters.
The town is run by Democrats of all sorts. They do okay. The remainder of Columbia County is dominated by rural communities run by Republicans. Mostly, they supported Trump turning a blind eye to his many deficiencies.
The local newspaper, Press Enterprise, is family owned. To me, they lean conservative but I support having a local, daily newspaper. There are not many communities that have held on to their local papers.
After Carol died as a result of being run into by a speeding (113 mph) Nesquehoning Borough police car driven by Steven Homanko, I struggled. Eventually, I sold a small farm Carol and I owned as well as our home in Hazleton. There too many memories. Fortunately, I had a wonderful friend in Bloomsburg and so, I moved.
In retirement I have taken care of legal issues related to Carol’s death, written 5 children’s books, created a children’s art gallery, wrote lyrics for 32 songs, wrote a memoir, How I Remember It and tried to become part of Bloomsburg. I have stayed close to family, made many new friends, and fell in love (again).
All of this helped me grieve and ease the pain in my spirit.
I enjoy living in Bloomsburg but I will never be able to take the McAdoo out of me. I was born there, grew up there, visit there and will be laid to rest there.
